On March 17, 2023, we graduated another 24 students from our Basic FTO School.
Once again, the class was well received based on the comments from the students. One student stated, “I came in thinking this course would be easy, and it would be easy to become a good FTO—boy was I wrong! I loved this course; I only wish we had more time to practice the DORs and debate our ratings. I believe this practice helped me understand how to score the DORs more accurately.”
Another wrote, “This was the first training I’ve gone to that became exciting to show up for. It was equally informative, fun, and funny to participate. My knowledge, ability, and confidence to train new officers to the highest standards has increased, and I look forward to putting this new skill set in practice.”
These are just two examples of how students walk away from our class. (More examples here.) Our goal has always been to present our material in a manner that allows the students to obtain and retain the information and walk away with skills sets required to become not just an FTO, but a “great FTO.”
Attendees from this class came from a variety of agencies, including Lynnwood, Everett, Mukilteo, Lake Stevens, Lake Forest Park, Bothell, Brier, Arlington, Yakama Nation, Tulalip, and Mill Creek Police Departments, as well as Snohomish County Parks and King County Adult and Juvenile Detention.
We are scheduled to return to Everett in September 2023, and these classes typically fill up quickly. If you are considering sending a member of your agency, you may wish to do so early to secure a spot.
We are excited to present our two-day FTO Refresher Class next month in Union Gap, and in August we will be at WSU. Those two classes are on our website and open for registration.
